Why Blended Education is right for my child!
-
How is blended learning different from homeschooling?
Attending a full-time blended learning center is not homeschooling. The online curriculum meets common-core compentency based standards and face-to-face teachers and online teachers are highly qualified, licensed educators according to state and federal requirements and specially trained in blended and online learning. Also, students must take all assessments required by federal and state laws. -
My child needs a faster or slower paced curriculum.
Online competency-based, core curriculum allows your child to progress based on his/her knowledge and skills rather than a traditional pace that every child must follow. By taking advantage of accredited online curriculum, your child, the face-to-face teacher, and the online teachers help determine the best pace for your child's educational needs.
-
My child spends too much time on homework in the evenings and weekends.
Blended Education doesn't entirely eliminate homework; however, the expectation is that homework becomes unnecessary as your child progresses in the curriculum. Occasionally, larger projects may still require additional time outside of the classroom.
-
My child is experiencing social problems in the large school setting.
While some children may thrive in a large traditional brick-and-mortar school setting, many students need fewer distractions, smaller peer groups, and more individual attention than the large setting can offer. At Frank Haviland Academy, our educational learning environment is designed to serve small student groups; teacher to student ratios will never exceed 15:1. Our face-to-face teachers are trained to facilitate a healthy, happy, safe learning space and social behaviors like bullying are not easily hidden in small class settings.
-
My child experiences frequent absences from school for medical reasons.
Absences in the blended learning environment are measured differently than the traditional brick-and-mortar schools. If students must attend appointments during class times, Frank Haviland Academy can work around this and help your child to continue making progress towards personalized learning goals. Illness or therapies do not have to penalize the blended-learning student as attendance is accounted for in a variety of ways beyond simple seat time.
-
My child needs more preparation and opportunity for independence.
Preparing children to take control of their own learning is the goal of every teacher Each child works closely with their face-to-face teacher in the first year and is slowly given more responsibility for his/her own learning goals. Face-to-face teachers provide guidance on goal setting, online teacher communications, self-pacing strategies, study skills, and time management. These are the skills the face-to-face teacher is trained to support and encourage in your child.
